OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

When mounting the saw blade make certain that all surfaces are clean and free of nicks and burrs, also that all chips and all foreign material have been removed. The saw blade should be clamped securely to the arbor and the backlash in the drive pins taken out in a direction opposite to that of the saw rotation. This can be accomplished by putting slight pressure with hand against the face of the tooth as the blade is being clamped down. The feed on a hydraulically operated machine should be properly adjusted prior to cutting any stock. The cutting time can be deter-mined by timing the blade travel through its cycle.

Use a high quality coolant.
Before starting a cut, be sure that the saw is operating at full RPM and rotating in correct direction.
Check chip remover for operation.
Be sure that stock is securely clamped.
Check all machine operations prior to making a cut.
If the type of material or the hardness is not known, the speed and feed can be obtained through trial and error. The best way to start is with a low cutting speed and accelerate from there. Examine the teeth after a few cuts. If they have burned or rounded corners the speed should be decreased. The cutting feed should also be started at a low level and determined visually by examining the chips formed. The feed should be set so that a blue chip is never produced in cutting ordinary steel.

After a saw blade has been resharpened, it should be visually inspected prior to installation to be certain that all rounded corners have been squared off and any excess grinding burr has been removed. When making the first cut with a resharpened blade, the blade should be fed into the cut at a slower than normal feed rate.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

Pick up or gall on the sides of the blade will be indicated by tearing marks on the feed lines in the stock and also a clicking noise corresponding to the revolution of the blade. The main reason for these conditions are as follows:

  • Stock not clamped securely
  • Dull saw teeth
  • Improper coolant
  • Chip remover not operating
  • Feed rate too high
  • Backlash not taken out
  • Too much side runout

Dull blades may show some or all of the following signs:

  • Slowing of cutting times
  • Rough finishes
  • Rounded corners of the saw teeth
  • Discolored corners on the teeth

Crooked cuts can be caused by the following signs:

  • Stock not clamped square to the saw blade
  • Crooked stock
  • Saw blade improperly sharpened
  • Dull saw blade
  • Incorrect pitch
  • Saw clamping surfaces not clean
  • Pick up or gall on one side of saw teeth
  • Improper collars
  • Too much side run out
